View Full Version : Student Loan problem...

Rackt3
I have an account on my credit report that shows a student loan "paid collection" (120+ days late). It's being reported by Great Lakes... which is supposedly not exactly a collection agency, and not a bank. I asked for validation, and I got nothing.

I then sent a second letter saying, prove it/remove it, or I'd sue. They sent me a letter back telling me that they are reporting it accurately as a paid collection They are following FCRA rules, and they are not a collection agency (I guess that means they dont have to give me "validation"?)

So what to I do next here? Can someone help me? should I sue.. or let it go? Thanks!

Christine
If they're not a collector, they don't have to validate. Make sure they age the account correctly, see NH Higher Ed (NHHEAF) re-aging ALL defaulted PAID student loans as a matter of policy (http://forum.creditcourt.com/discus/messages/364/364.html)

 Thanks for the reply Christine. By the way, here's their website --> www.glhec.org

When they wrote me back, they said that they verified about number xxxxxxx on my credit reports. Well, when I checked all three reports, the only one that actually had that account number was experian. They were showing up under different account numbers with TU and EFX. Should I mention it, or just forget about the whole thing?

Thanks again!

Christine
I really can't say, don't know what the impact of the account is on your credit rating, how important your credit rating is, and don't know how much spare time you have. Sometimes nagging gets results.
