Help! I just received notice of cancellation on one of my credit cards due to a change in my credit rating. I worked for a company for 18 years with excellent credit ratings. A new operation was opened about 2 years ago under a different name (as had been done many times in the past) I was a manager in the company and applied for a company credit card and signed the application - I did not own any part of the company. I did not think anything of it at the time. In February of this year I left that company to go to work for another company. The original company filed bankruptcy in May or so of this year and the company credit card was one of the debts included in the filing. With my name and SS# on the application it is now reflected on my credit report as a bankruptcy. I have also had telephone notification of the intended cancellation of one of my gas credit cards. Do I have any relief available?

...in what capacity? As a co-borrower? As an authorized user?

1. Get a copy of your credit reports (all of them) and see what it says. Dispute it with the credit repositories.
2. Dispute it with the credit grantor. Demand to see a copy of the original agreement signed by you.

I don't know what you signed. You may have screwed yourself. I hope not.

Additionally, the question is whether any money was OWED on the card and discharged.

Did you get statements showing they didn't pay?

Did they use the card after you left?

Who is the creditor?

Immediately DISPUTE the account with all bureaus and the creditor. You might want to copy the gas card company.

Then have the bureaus provide everyone who got the incorrect report with the corrected version.
