View Full Version : Collector Asset Acceptance sending out "Privacy Policy" - do NOT respond

Christine
One of my clients got a mailing from Asset Acceptance today, asking that she return the mailing or call their 800 number if she wants to "opt out" of their data sharing with non-affiliated third parties.

Apparently they sell your data to third parties, such as creditors who make loans to people with credit problems, etc.

When you call the 800 #, they will get YOUR number even if you have an unlisted number.

I suspect they are also looking for people who are alive and responding. It's pretty obvious that you don't want to let them know that you care.

If you're working on your credit, you want to demand validation, settle and/or get the account deleted.

If you're not working on your credit, don't respond to this mailing, as you can expect "increased collection efforts" if you do.

It should also be noted that when you call an 800# they will get your number even if you "BLOCK" (i.e., by dialing code *67 before dialing).

Thanks, how could I forget to mention that!

Did talk with the attorney for Asset a few weeks ago and asked him about this letter. He assured me that they'd like nothing more than NOT having to send out the letter.

There is some "Act" that requires them to send out this privacy notice once a year, and he said that they're not selling any data. He sounded sincere, but I still wouldn't call.
